ABOUT

The Estate

The name — 'beautiful pebbles' — refers to the distinctive deep gravel soils of the Saint-Julien plateau on which this Second Growth estate stands. Ducru-Beaucaillou is one of Bordeaux's most classical estates: understated in its presentation, rigorous in its winemaking, and producing wines of exceptional elegance and extraordinary longevity.

The château itself — a 19th-century manor overlooking the Gironde — is among the most handsome in the Médoc. Under Bruno Borie's stewardship, Ducru has cemented its status as the reference point for Saint-Julien, consistently producing wines that outperform their Second Growth classification and rival the First Growths in the greatest vintages.

The Grand Vin is characterised by its signature cedar-spice complexity, pencil shaving elegance, and a structured finesse that demands patience. Ducru at 15 years old begins to show its full character; at 25, it can be among the most profound wines in Bordeaux.
