ABOUT

The Estate

Clos Fourtet occupies a privileged position at the very entrance to the Saint-Émilion village, its cellars carved directly into the limestone rock below. A Premier Grand Cru Classé B estate, Clos Fourtet is distinguished by its spectacular network of underground tunnels — some dating to the 18th century — which provide the perfect naturally temperature-controlled environment for barrel ageing.

Since its acquisition by the Cuvelier family in 2001, the estate has been transformed: vine density increased, yields reduced, and winemaking refined to produce wines of remarkable concentration, precision and terroir expression. The Merlot-dominant blend reflects the limestone plateau's influence with wonderful mineral freshness.

The wines combine the richness typical of Saint-Émilion's finest with an earthy, chalky minerality that is the direct expression of the estate's extraordinary geological position: a building literally sitting on top of its own ageing cellars, carved from the same rock that nourishes the vines above.
