Château Pavie Macquin

The Estate
A Premier Grand Cru Classé B of Saint-Émilion, Château Pavie Macquin takes its name from Albert Macquin, the 19th-century viticulturist who helped replant Bordeaux's vineyards after phylloxera devastated the region. The estate sits on the limestone plateau to the east of Saint-Émilion village, adjacent to the more famous Château Pavie.
Managed biodynamically since 1990 under the guidance of Nicolas Thienpont and oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt, the wines are Merlot-dominant with a distinctive mineral tension from the clay-limestone soils: concentrated, structured, and built to age for two decades or more.
The biodynamic conversion — among the earliest in Saint-Émilion for an estate of this classification — has given the wines a purity and terroir transparency that sets them apart from many neighbours. Pavie Macquin is widely regarded as one of the most authentic expressions of the Saint-Émilion limestone plateau.
