ABOUT

The Estate

The most southerly of the Médoc Premiers Crus, Château Margaux sits in the appellation that bears its name and produces what many consider the most perfumed, elegant wines in all of Bordeaux. The 18th-century neoclassical château — modelled on a Palladian villa — is among the most photographed in France.

Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the Grand Vin blend, yielding wines of extraordinary finesse: silk-textured, violet-scented, and capable of evolving over 50 years. The second wine, Pavillon Rouge, and the rare Pavillon Blanc — produced from 100% Sauvignon Blanc — complete the range.

Under the ownership of the Mentzelopoulos family since 1977 and the direction of Paul Pontallier until his death in 2016, Margaux underwent one of Bordeaux's most celebrated revivals. Philippa Pontallier continues this legacy with the same rigour and precision.
