ABOUT

The Estate

Guido Berlucchi & C. holds a unique place in Italian wine history: it was here, in 1961, that enologist Franco Ziliani first produced a méthode champenoise sparkling wine in Franciacorta, effectively founding the appellation. Working from the historic Palazzo Lana in Borgonato di Corte Franca, the estate transformed a then-obscure zone into Italy's foremost sparkling wine region.

Today Berlucchi is the largest producer in the zone and one of the most recognised sparkling wine brands in Italy, with over 500 hectares under vine. The estate's range spans from the entry-level 61 Franciacorta to the prestige Palazzo Lana Extrême, produced only in exceptional vintages from the oldest vines.

Scale has not come at the expense of quality: the wines are consistently fresh, precise, and expressive of Franciacorta's unique terroir. Berlucchi remains the most important symbol of what this zone has become — and of the vision of one man, Franco Ziliani, who believed it could rival Champagne.
